Lupt (transl. Extinct; Hindi pronunciation: [lʊpt]) is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language supernatural horror film starring Javed Jaffrey, Niki Aneja Walia and Vijay Raaz. The film is directed by Prabhuraj.The story revolves around Harsh who is a ruthless businessman and his family. And how they go on dying one after another by some supernatural force during a family vacation due to some past sin committed by Harsh.The film is a copy of the 2003 movie Dead End.
The movie starts with Harsh telling his subordinates about the new merger his company made. Tanu is a model who is dating a photographer, Rahul. At home after work, Tanu returns home and suddenly the lights start flickering and a weird voice coming from her brother's room. She finds a skull in his closet and a figure scares her. Tanu calls or her mom and it is revealed to be Sam. Sam is going to the US because no one appreciates his art. The next day, Shalini asks Harsh if they can go to a family vacation but Harsh rejects her saying he has to focus on his business. On his way to work, he sees a girl crossing the road quickly but when he stops the car he sees no one. He tells his driver to go somewhere else instead of the office. He goes to meet a psychiatrist who tells him he is hallucinating and that he should take a break. On a date, Rahul asks Tanu what's with her father as he never greeted him and etc. At the office, Harsh hallucinates a ghost-like creature looking at him.
After consulting his friend, the psychiatrist, he decides to go on a vacation with his family. Some moments later, he gets the news his manager has died on-site by accident. He gives Tyagi all responsibilities. He has a small talk with a guy called Satish. The family at home are preparing for the vacation. Tanu convinces Rahul to come with them. They stop at the petrol station. Tanu goes to buy some snacks and when returning she bumps into a man dressed all in black. The silence in the car is killing Sam and he throws a joke but no one laughs. The way gets blocked as there has been an accident. Harsh takes another route. The route is long without signs or lights on the road. They see a man on the road, which is the same man Tanu bumped into. He asks them where they're heading but they don't say anything and Sam jokes about having a corpse in the car.
Later, they see a stroller on the road. It has a doll in it. Sam acts as if the puppet has attacked him. He gets slapped by an angry Harsh. Everyone goes to the car so does Sam. Harsh asks him to remove that stroller on the road. Sam is shocked to see it again on the road. He throws it away this time. The stroller moves by itself to the road. A while later, Harsh hallucinates a ghost. And now the car is not starting. Sam is alone in the car when the radio starts playing static noise saying "everyone will die". There is no signal in that area. A car stops near them, which is the very same man the came across a while ago. The man says there is no garage nearby but he offers them a proposal of staying at his cottage. They agree to go. They see a swing that's swinging by itself, the man suggests it might be an animal's doing. They enter the house.
The man asks for their destination which Harsh says is Nainital. The man adds that there is no help here. Tanu tells her mom that she is uncomfortable there. Sam is alone and sees a doll's feet. He goes near and the doll is just like the one he saw. He hears a giggle of a kid going behind him and he looks back at the doll that is now crying blood. Tanu comes and the doll disappears. Outside he sees a girl holding the doll but again when Tanu turns to see, it's not there. Tanu tells Rahul about how she is bored of Sam's doings. Sam takes a knife and starts piercing it through the wall. Harsh says he is disowning him. Sam's voice has now changed and he says "everyone will die". Now, Sam is outside. He feels a sensation on the swing. The man goes to talk to Sam. Sam goes on the road after. Rahul talks to him and Sam says he is doing nothing. Sam tells everything to Rahul and begs to return back. Rahul does not take him seriously. Now, Sam is all alone.
At the cottage, Harsh sees a girl in red clothes and when he does it again the figure is not there. Tanu informs her parents that the car has been fixed. Harsh is now alone in the cottage. The flickering of lights and then darkness, Harsh goes to find his family. He hears something which includes a girl laughing. After a long search, he finally sees a ghost and the lights are back and Tanu checks on him. In that specific room, they see some disturbing pictures. Harsh wants to leave. Sam is on the road and sees the stroller. He follows to see a ghost girl singing "Happy birthday to Ria" with the doll. He has an eye-to-eye moment with the girl. He turns around to get a jumpscare from a woman ghost. He runs for his life and reaches the cottage hurt. He starts bleeding from his nose. Harsh calls for an ambulance and a woman is crying on the phone. Tanu gets some breathing problems and Rahul is asked to go get the inhaler. Sam says "the girl" before seeing the ghost again and then dying.
The family suspects that Dev, the man in black, killed Sam as he is the only one missing. Rahul and Harsh put Sam in the trunk. They continue their trip. Shalini asks for Sam but Harsh refuses to tell for a moment. Harsh stops the car as Tanu is having her breathing problems again. Shalini is outside too but now with a gun and is asking for Sam. Shalini sees Sam and follows him and the rest follow Shalini but lose her. Shalini runs behind Sam and goes straight towards a tree, thus losing consciousness. Tanu finds her first.
The three, Harsh, Rahul, and Tanu continue the trip. Shalini is put next to Tanu. Harsh sees a ghostly figure between them. Shalini hears Sam calling for her and opens her eyes. She continues to hear Sam and some smacking in the trunk. She asks Harsh to stop the car and threatens him. She jumps from the car and says "you will all die" before dying herself. Shalini also saw the ghost before dying.
Now the remaining three continue the road. Harsh sees signs of Lucknow on the road and asks Rahul to take the car a little back. He is surprised that Lucknow is still 145 miles away despite driving for hours. And he also sees the board of Dev's cottage. Harsh thinks a lot about what happened and tells Rahul to go to the cottage. He finds Dev there. He asks Dev about his identity. Dev says he is a writer. Dev says they left their baggage and asks for the whereabouts of Shalini and Sam. Harsh says they are dead. Dev mentions that there was an accident on that road that killed the whole family and confirms all things about the stroller, the little girl, the doll. Harsh holds himself responsible for the death of his wife and son.
He tells the whole story. It happened two years before. His biggest competitor was Vinod Kumar. One evening, Vinod attended the same party as Harsh. Harsh was talking with Satish, the guy he had a small heated small talk with, about how he is envious of Vinod winning Entrepreneur of the year. There he meets Vinod's family, his wife in red, and his daughter with her doll. The girl invites Harsh for her birthday. Vinod is on his way to their home. Satish warns Harsh about his driving as he has dunk a lot. Harsh speeds the car and Vinod bumps into the Lucknow sign. They are slightly alive. Satish asks Harsh to help them but he doesn't.
He is regretful as he realises what he has done. There is flickering in the house. He sees the little girl. Dev denies the existence of the spirits. Tanu starts having her breathing problems again but now the inhaler has finished. There is another flickering and a storm. She sees a woman, Vinod's wife, Geeta, which everyone sees. Harsh pleads to Geeta's spirit for his daughter's life. He takes his own life with a gun. Geeta spares Tanu's life as her little girl looks at her in such a way.
The movie ends with Dev saying that this new experience changed his beliefs about the existence of spirits and a book that he wrote called "Lupt".
